Oral Health Education for All
HDS and the HDS Foundation prioritize oral health education with its members, clients, and the community. Whether it’s through community outreach events, community health center programs or statewide initiatives for Hawaii students, HDS and the HDS Foundation incorporate oral health education for all age groups. Here are a few ways in which we educate the community:

Oral Health Initiatives
HDS works with the State of Hawaii, nonprofits and health organizations to implement oral health initiatives to educate local families. HDS initiatives such as Dentist by One and Seal Away Decay are campaigns that target young families to get their children to the dentist to prevent tooth decay and other dental issues that might arise as they get older.

Community Outreach
During the pandemic, HDS partnered with multiple nonprofit organizations to ensure seniors had access to hot meals throughout the lockdown. Some of our HDS staff volunteered to deliver meals alongside St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii and included oral health kits to remind people to take care of their teeth and gums.

Advertising
HDS invests in oral health public service announcements and sponsored segments that focus on the benefits of good oral health and the power of preventive care for Hawaii’s families.

Community Outreach - Tooth Fairy Fun Day
Pre-pandemic, HDS hosted its signature annual Tooth Fairy Fun Day event for HDS members, HDS Medicaid beneficiaries and the general community. This educational event featured free dental screenings, games, prizes and entertainment for children and their parents.
